For what age groups is Fluenz designed?
Fluenz will work from a language learning perspective and its content is appropriate for anyone aged 13 and above. The content has been designed to be relevant for travelling adults as much as to be a strong foundation for future learning, and some thirteen year-olds might find it boring. There are references to beer and wine.

Does Fluenz work for children?
We strongly believe that children up till 12 learn languages in arbitrary patterns, as if they were hard-wired to learn them. This is why it is easy for them, and why they can learn second and third languages with a native accent. Fluenz has been designed for people who have passed this stage, and who profit from using their well-developed sense of grammar, long-term memory and logical ability when learning a new language.

Do I need a microphone to use Fluenz?
Two of Fluenz's most important workouts require a microphone to allow you to record yourself and practice your verbal expression. The software will run without a microphone, but you will miss one of the program's key elements. All our programs are compatible with both standard and USB microphones.

How do I install a microphone in my computer?
Your computer might already have a microphone installed. If you don't like your computer's microphone, or you computer doesn't have one, there are a number of well-made accessory microphones on the market. Most of these come with an installer CD, which you should run before plugging the microphone into the (usually green) mic jack at the back of desktops or to the side of most laptops (usually next to the headphone jack).

Can I turn the music off in Fluenz? Can I turn it down?
You can turn the music off at any time by simply clicking on the music button on the upper right hand side of the Fluenz client. You cannot change the sound level of the music alone, only turn it off or on.

You can adjust the volume of Fluenz by going to your computer's audio settings, not in the Fluenz client itself.

Can I move between workouts while I'm doing a session?
You can always move forward and backwards within sessions, and you can do the workouts, watch the videos, or listen to the conversations as many times as you'd like.

Which Spanish does Fluenz Spanish teach?
The Spanish in our system is standard Castilian with a generic Latin American accent, which is perfectly functional in Madrid, Miami, or Mexico City. The difference between the Spanish from Spain and that from Argentina or Mexico is the same as the difference between the English spoken in Australia, the United States, and South Africa. In the same way that someone learning standard North American English can be understood in the UK, Fluenz's generic Castilian works throughout Spain and the Americas.
